Hybrid nanocrystals: achieving concurrent therapeutic and bioimaging functionalities toward solid tumors.
نویسندگان
چکیده
Bioimaging and therapeutic agents accumulated in ectopic tumors following intravenous administration of hybrid nanocrystals to tumor-bearing mice. Solid, nanosized paclitaxel crystals physically incorporated fluorescent molecules throughout the crystal lattice and retained fluorescent properties in the solid state. Hybrid nanocrystals were significantly localized in solid tumors and remained in the tumor for several days. An anticancer effect is expected of these hybrid nanocrystals.

Biodistribution and bioimaging studies of hybrid paclitaxel nanocrystals: lessons learned of the EPR effect and image-guided drug delivery.
Paclitaxel (PTX) nanocrystals (200 nm) were produced by crystallization from a solution. Antitumor efficacy and toxicity were examined through a survival study in a human HT-29 colon cancer xenograft murine model. The antitumor activity of the nanocrystal treatments was comparable with that by the conventional solubilization formulation (Taxol®), but yielded less toxicity as indicated by the re...
متن کاملEvaluation of a Novel Thermobrachytherapy Seed for Concurrent Administration of Brachytherapy and Magnetically Mediated Hyperthermia in Treatment of Solid Tumors
Concurrent hyperthermia and radiation therapy in treatment of cancer show a strong evidence of a synergistic enhancement. We designed a new self-regulating Thermo-Brachytherapy seed, which serves as a source of both radiation and heat for concurrent administration of brachytherapy and hyperthermia. The Thermo-Brachytherapy seed has a core of ferromagnetic material which produces heat when subje...
متن کاملBacteria-mediated in vivo delivery of quantum dots into solid tumor.
Semiconductor nanocrystals, so-called quantum dots (QDs), promise potential application in bioimaging and diagnosis in vitro and in vivo owing to their high-quality photoluminescence and excellent photostability as well as size-tunable spectra. Here, we describe a biocompatible, comparatively safe bacteria-based system that can deliver QDs specifically into solid tumor of living animals. In our...

Controlled synthesis of a hybrid nanomaterial based on titanium oxide and single-layer graphene (SLG) using atomic layer deposition (ALD) is reported here. The morphology and crystallinity of the oxide layer on SLG can be tuned mainly with the deposition temperature, achieving either a uniform amorphous layer at 60 °C or ∼2 nm individual nanocrystals on the SLG at 200 °C after only 20 ALD cycle...
متن کاملEngineering of lipid-coated PLGA nanoparticles with a tunable payload of diagnostically active nanocrystals for medical imaging.
Polylactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) based nanoparticles are biocompatible and biodegradable and therefore have been extensively investigated as therapeutic carriers. Here, we engineered diagnostically active PLGA nanoparticles that incorporate high payloads of nanocrystals into their core for tunable bioimaging features. We accomplished this through esterification reactions of PLGA to generate p...
